Did you know that contact lenses are a federally regulated medical device, just as medications are? That is why you need a prescription (Rx) to get them. Contact lenses are fitted directly onto your eye. Because of that, special care must be taken to ensure that the lens is not causing any physiological damage to your cornea, conjunctive or eye lid.
The process of fitting, evaluating and contact lenses compatibility requires separate measurements and interpretation that is not a part of a preventative care eye examination. It is a separate service. Contact lens wearers are recommended to have an annual contact lens exam to maintain their clear vision and eye health. This exam would be in addition to your preventative care exam.
